Six of Swords

The Six of Swords
by Heather Blakey

The Six of Swords keeps leaping out of my deck, telling me what I know to be true. I have endured much, yet there is a stillness and serenity which has come after the crisis of my mother's decline and death.

I sit looking, rather wistfully at all the swords. There is no mistaking that it has been a difficult time. But, somehow, I now understand the pattern of life, have seen and come to understand, know how I have been the architect of my own fate

The Six of Swords does not provide options or influence my choices. Drawing the Six does not change any of the external situations that have impacted on my life. Rather, it helps me to see why I am on this particular road at this particular time. All the Six of Swords does is shows me what is and has been.

I look at the Swords, sip my drink and contemplate the fact that the swords are not piercing my body or weighing me down.

All things remain possible. I could, perhaps pick up one sword as protection and head off, armed with  a trusty copy of Shakti Gawain's Creative Visualization.

Perhaps I will make a treasure map which depicts me not surrounded by swords but filling cups instead.

  1. Great post and images, Heather. Superb. Life is certainly bittersweet, there is no other word for it.

  2. This is the "keep on keeping on" card. In the RW depiction the passengers in the boat are looking down and don't see the far shore. They don't see that they will get beyond the despair of the present moment and reach a good place. They are dealing with the moment.

  3. I like the sense from both the image and your writing that you are viewing the swords as teachers, allies almost.

  4. Great post, Heather, and fantastic images. You are in that contemplative period during which you have to weigh the tragedies, and goodness knows you have suffered more than your, against the possibilities that lie ahead of you. In your case the creative cauldron that bubbles inside you is your salvation.

  5. Hi Heather,
away from my books at the moment but I have read the Six of Swords is the most benign of the Swords and indicates new beginnings are possible and are just around the corner.

  6. Curiosity made me check my books - In The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Tarot by Jane Lyle I read - 6 of Swords - Keywords: Movement restores harmony. The card suggests you are leaving your worries behind and moving forward into a happier phase....Journeys can mark the end of a hard time.. they can restorative and help you think clearly about the future. A short holiday may help after a period of prolonged stress.
